British Open 2005 Golf Tour of Scotland
11th - 19th July

The British Open 2005 will be held in St Andrews, Scotland, from the 14th to 17th July. It is without doubt golf’s event of the year. The British Open, is also the most unique of the majors and with a history reaching back to 1860, the oldest of all golf tournaments.

Monday, July 11
Arrive Edinburgh

Meet with your tour escort and transfer to The Royal Dunkeld Hotel in Highland Perthshire. Dunkeld. The fort of the Celts' played a vital role in the early history of Scotland, both as a Royal and Religious centre. It was the original seat of the chief of the mysterious kingdom of the Picts; Scotland's first king, Kenneth MacAlpin, built a stone church here early in the 9th century to house the relics of St Columba; and under King David I it was the centre of Christianity in all of Scotland.

Tuesday, July 12
Full Scottish breakfast at hotel

Golfers: Play the Taymouth Castle Golf Course. Designed by James Braid, the course is parkland set in scenic mountain terrain. 18 holes 6066 yards. It is one of the very best examples in the country. It is also one of the best kept secrets in Perthshire!

Non-Golfers: Visit Aberfeldy and Kenmore. Two Highland Perthshire Towns, each with its own character.

Dinner at the hotel. Followed by an evening of Scottish Entertainment at the Royal Dunkeld Hotel.

Golfers: Play Dunkeld and Birnam Golf Club.The course is one of the most picturesque in Perthshire with each hole affording not only a new and interesting challenge for the golfer, but also ever changing views of the glorious surrounding countryside.

Non-Golfers: Visit Pitlochry, situated at the gateway to the Scottish Highlands and surrounded by the most resplendent mountain scenery in Europe, Pitlochry is a gloriously colourful and vibrant Victorian town with the River Tummel running along its edge. Pitlochry's fame as a vacation resort dates from as long ago as the 1860's ensuring that this is an area very proud of its tradition of hospitality and the extraordinary warm manner with which visitors are welcomed.

Golfers: Play Rosemount Course in Blairgowrie. Described by Tom Morris as, “The most beautiful inland green I have ever seen”, the Rosemount course certainly lives up to its reputation. Designed by James Braid with influences from Dr. Alistair McKenzie, the renowned architect of the Augusta National course, Rosemount has played host to a number of prestigious professional and amateur tournaments.

Non-Golfers: Visit Glamis Castle, the childhood home of the last Queen Mother and the legendary setting of Shakespeare's "Macbeth".
